A Struggling nervous system

Did you know the nervous system is hard wired to hold on to trauma for survival.

The nervous system can get stuck in the fight/flight/freeze/fawn loop after chronic stress or trauma which explains why injuries, anxiety attacks, migraines, low back pain and other debilitating symptoms still affect you years later. 

Thousands of years ago, this biological response would have saved us from dangerous predators, but today it prevents us from feeling connected to our bodies leading to stagnation or feeling stuck in life. 

Traumatization is less about what happened to you and more about how your nervous system integrated your experience(s). Trauma occurs when the nervous system does not effectively integrate a stressful experience or set of experiences. 

Signs of unresolved trauma in the body could include:

Digestive issues, migraines, chronic pain, low energy, brain fog, food sensitivities, poor posture, skin conditions, sleep disturbances, fast and shallow breathing, sweating, tenderness in the joints, depression, anxiety and more. 

What's the best way to heal?

Unlike Eastern medicine, traditional Western medicine has focused on separating the mind and body when it comes to healing trauma. The main focus has been to treat symptoms which does not allow to body to release stored trauma stress from the nervous system.

For centuries, the broken “sick care” system has heavily relied on prescription medication for support a dysregulated nervous system. 

As a result of treating only the symptoms of trauma in the body, the nervous system adapts and either remains overstimulated or is consistently triggered. Consequently,  shutting down the body even more creating a whole myriad of other health issues.

How can we start healing?

According to leading trauma experts Dr. Bruce Perry, Dr. Stephen Porges, Dr. Peter Levine, Dr. Bessell Van der Kolk, and Dr. Gabor Maté, the key to healing is to help reduce dissociation and to reconnect with body sensations. This is why many movement and body-centered therapies are emerging as more effective and trauma-informed modalities.

The work of Dr. Stephen Porges’s Polyvagal Theory offers insight into toning the vagus nerve to help facilitate a calmer and more emotionally balanced stress response. 

But, the question still remains…how do we know which of these therapies are best for our individual needs?

Self Healing

As a mom of three young children running her own business I barely had any spare time to figure out what and how I should start healing. Over the years, I carefully curated a solution that brought everything I’ve learned together into one highly effective program. 

It was important for me to learn and understand all the modalities that are included in the Movement Therapy Academy. This was done under the guidance of various professionals, coaches, therapists and doctors. But, the reality is we are never truly done healing. 

Healing is a life skill that needs to be nurtured every day, which is why the movements are simple and gentle.

Who is this program for?

Do you hold stress in your body and want to reduce stress levels, break up tension patterns and learn to maintain a baseline of relaxation. 

Have you experienced trauma and want to release it at a physical level. 

Have you tried many modalities but none of them seem to “work” or you struggle with staying consistent.

This program does not replace any type of trauma healing therapies such as EMDR, neuro-feedback or any other professional medical or mental health care. Instead, this program is an educational and experiential opportunity for you to complement the other work you’re doing. 

I am so excited and grateful for this opportunity to offer you the tools, community and support to deepen your self-healinig journey.
